Notice regarding Novel Corona virus (COVID-19)
The Oxford Cemetery Association is dedicated to the safety of our families, our employees and the community. We must do our part in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and ask for your assistance in meeting this goal. Funeral homes and places of worship need to counsel families on these temporary rules, reminding them that they are necessary to save lives.
At this time, the cemetery grounds remain open during our normal operating hours, 7 days a week. Visitors are free to walk or drive to their destination.
Unfortunately, we are not able to meet the Health Director’s requirements for sanitizing the Chapel. Therefore, we will need to lock the Chapel and will not be able to inter cremains in the columbarium during the emergency.
To meet the emergency directives, we need to limit burial service to family members and close friends only. The limit has to be 10 people total, maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet at all times. This limit includes the funeral staff. Any additional staff needed to prepare the event should complete their activities prior to the family’s arrival.
We may need to limit the duration of the service. Please bear with us should this be necessary.
During the emergency, we will not be able to accept flower pieces from the funeral processions, as they create a risk to our staff while they are lowering and closing the grave site. Flowers may be brought to the grave site after the grave is closed.
We ask funeral directors to limit staff to one person or the absolute minimum necessary. Funeral Directors need to ensure the 10 person limit and social distance objectives are meet.
Our cemetery staff will not attend the burial. They will not be able to help as pallbearers. They will need to maintain a safe distance until after everyone leaves. This includes the vault company personnel. Lowering and closing activities will occur after everyone leaves or are in their cars.
We ask that cremains interments are delayed until after the emergency is over. We will accept cremains interments by appointment as time permits.
It is an honor to be a place where many find peace amidst our beautiful and historic landscape. We hope to continue to offer a place of peace and solace in the days ahead. We regret any inconvenience these measures may cause. We look forward to the day when we can return to normal operations and these measures are no longer necessary.
Thank you for your understanding.
